Some of you may know that John H. McLean, oldest son of Betty (Hicks) McLean and Jack McLean was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer almost a year ago. John is a retired officer USN, and lives with his wife Claire and three children in Chattanooga. Keith, thank you for posting this. I overheard part of a conversation at the Reunion that made it plain that all was not as it should be - but I didn't want to pry - for a flaming ass of a Dragon I do have some funny quirks.
Betty and Jack are and always have been just the best folks so although I don't know their son, I know the tree from which he fell - and as everyone knows we don't fall too far from that tree so I do know that he is special. This is too hard.
I will add him to my list of names that are held up with requests for blessings. Beyond that I just don't have words - except to say bless and keep them all.
Keith - I also thank you for posting this. John and Claire are indeed very special and so appreciate every good thought we can send to them. Their posts to the Caring Bridge site are truly remarkable.
Charlotte - Bless you for your discretion, - the older I get, the more I appreciate that quality.
You all will be glad to know that the Class of '58 was represented at John's retirement from the Navy. Andy Mac traveled to Memphis for the ceremony.
Keith, thank you for posting the picture of John and his family and for describing his situation. All of us are grateful for the thoughts, blessings and prayers of members of the Class of '58. John has enjoyed stories of our days at RHS although he is dubious of many of the tall tales.
In spite of setbacks, John remains optimistic. Recently, he and Claire surprised the children by loading them into the van for a "mystery trip." None of the kids guessed their destination until they drove through the gates of Disney World. They approach each day as a gift, something we are still trying to learn.

Betty, how could John possibly be dubious? All those stories are absolutely true!
Mallory, Madison and Max must have been beyond thrilled when they drove through the Disney World gates. So glad they got to do it. That place appeals to the kid in all of us.
