HAPPY NEW YEAR, CLASS OF '58!

Lions and Tigers and Rats and Dragons, oh my

I had mentioned to Keith via e-mail that I had a small problem with the fact that the format here does not order itself by last post as many do - but this is a tiny problem in relation to the problem that I discovered this morning when I checked the additions I had made to my profile yesterday. The system has arbitrarily declared based on its owe obvious misinformation that I was born in the year of the Rat - which by the way is a very good year indeed just not the correct year for me. I was born in the year of the Dragon and am a metal Dragon to boot which is the best or the worst kind depending on how much you admire stubbornness. My whole life including my latest choice of a mate has been predicated on that fact and to believe otherwise would create chaos in my life which has enough of that already. Seriously, I do have a very authoritative book that I have used to cast horoscopes for many decades - to make matters worse it appears this feature cannot be edited. Can you tell this is important to me? :) :)

Comments from Charlotte A., Keith, David

There is a thread of interesting comments from Charlotte A., David and me in response to my December 18 post on "Blog Needs Food."  Since this may be buried and lost to most readers, here's a direct link:

You don't really need a separate Google email account ...

... to use our RHS58 blog site.  You can just use your standard email address.  Here's how:

When you're first invited to join, you'll be getting an email from Blogger saying
"Keith has invited you to contribute to the blog."
RHS58Blog

Now, just ignore the phrase "Don't have a Google Account?"
click on username (email) - use a different account
You'll now get a new screen.   In the new screen, under username, type in your current email address that you want to use.  Next type in your password, then to accept the invitation, check on the remember me box, then click on Accept Invitation.  Finally, click on Edit User Profile.  Make whatever additions or changes you want.   At a minimum you'll want to include your screen name (e.g. David).  It's also a good time to include a photo of yourself (a photo file from your computer's hard drive, if you have one).  Then at the bottom of this screen click on Save Profile.    That's all - you're finished and are ready to post to the blog, make replies (comments) to other posts, etc.  If  you have questions, you can email them to me at   krcarver@charter.net

Merry Christmas!

... from cold snowy western Massachusetts.  Here's hoping you're spending your Christmastime with family or friends.  My best wishes to  you for a Happy New Year.

We can learn this

Ann, We can learn this; I know we can. And if our weather so far is any indication of the winter, I think we'll all have plenty of time come January. For example, I was going to "comment" to you, but couldn't figure out how to "specify profile". Lucy

1958 at U.S. Capitol

Here's our famous group photo at the U.S. Capitol in 1958.  To see an enlargement click on the photo.

Merry Christmas

from cold Kentucky. At least the sun is shining today. There have been recent days when I have almost forgotten what it looks like. Keith, did you all suffer from any of the power outages? I did think about you during that ordeal and remembered the horror of our ice storm. I just hope each of you and yours have the best possible Christmas - regardless of what the weather may bring. Blog Needs Food!

Ann, Charlotte, Barbara - Thanks for joining the blog.  But a good blog needs to be fed, so post some news.  This blog is STARVED for news!  Or comments on just about anything...

50 years later back at Rhea Stadium

Charlotte, Betty, Charlotte, Ike, Dot, Ann, Andy Mac, Keith, Helen, David, Vivian (with Walter Rhodes in background)

Aren't we lucky?

Well, aren't we lucky to have Keith to set this up for us? I have seen blogs but have surely never submitted anything to one. As I understand it, there can be problems about folks posting nude pictures of themselves on their blogs; I don't really foresee that happening with the Class of '58, or I surely hope it doesn't.

The reunion was wonderful, and I have enjoyed seeing the pictures. Thanks to all you photographers for sharing.

We are blogging; we are sharing pictures on our computers. Would any one of us even dreamed such when we were sitting in that typing class in '56 or '57?

Lucy

RHS'58?

Our recent 50th reunion in Russellville was a big success.  But it seems like such a long time to the next one (2013), I thought maybe we could carry on some of the momentum with this RHS58 blog site.  I've never set up a blog before, have only read a few, and don't know how well this will work, but it seems worth a try.  It's an alternative to long email threads, maybe not as convenient as emails in some ways, but also there are some advantages to blogging.  That is, IF a bunch of us chime in and I don't wind up blogging to myself.   I've sent out invitations to all the RHS58 graduate email addresses I have, and there's room for plenty more, so let me know if there's someone in particular I should invite.

I've been thinking how much I enjoyed Glenn Ray's barbeque at our reunion dinner.  Wish I could get some of his BBQ chicken here in western Massachusetts.   It was really nice to have some time to visit, maybe a bigger deal to those of us who no longer live in Russellville than those who do.  I don't really know.  But I enjoyed it.  When it came time to talk about our next reunion, and Andy Mac threw out the 2018 (10 years!) option, did you notice how quickly we agreed that doing it in 2013 (5 years) seemed like a better idea.

Enough.  Someone else should chime in.  Almost any topic:  the reunion, what you're doing to get ready for Christmas, grandkids, etc.  I think we're supposed to be able to post photos, but I  haven't tried it yet.
