Lions and Tigers and Rats and Dragons, oh my

I had mentioned to Keith via e-mail that I had a small problem with the fact that the format here does not order itself by last post as many do - but this is a tiny problem in relation to the problem that I discovered this morning when I checked the additions I had made to my profile yesterday. The system has arbitrarily declared based on its owe obvious misinformation that I was born in the year of the Rat - which by the way is a very good year indeed just not the correct year for me. I was born in the year of the Dragon and am a metal Dragon to boot which is the best or the worst kind depending on how much you admire stubbornness. My whole life including my latest choice of a mate has been predicated on that fact and to believe otherwise would create chaos in my life which has enough of that already. Seriously, I do have a very authoritative book that I have used to cast horoscopes for many decades - to make matters worse it appears this feature cannot be edited. Can you tell this is important to me? :) :)

Charlotte, although my knowledge of the Chinese zodiac and astrology could easily be written in the upper right hand corner of a postage stamp, I googled it and found that I too was born (May 18, 1940) in the year of the Dragon, although I have not a clue as to whether I'm inorganic (metal or wood) or organic. I have much to learn here, but feel somewhat comforted that I'm in the company of other Dragons such as yourself and presumably a few others in our Class of '58.

I have no idea why the Blog cast you as a Rat and me as a Dragon, and I'm sure it must be painful not to be able to edit your label. It seems to me that a fiery letter or email of protest from you to Blogger is in order.

In the western zodiac, I am indeed a stubborn Taurus, as Donna would be quick to attest. But I can't change my birthdate, so I'm resigned to be my hardheaded self.

I can indeed tell that these things are important to you. I hope you'll enlighten us further. When I consulted the Wikipedia on the Chinese zodiac I quickly got confused, so maybe you could offer a simpler explanation of how this all works.

Keith, I suspect more of us than not are metal Dragons since that designation covers birth dates from February 8, 1940 through January 26, 1941. Perhaps this accounts in part for the fact that we were by and large an outstanding lot.

Because it is such a powerful sign, the Year of the Dragon is the year that the Chinese traditionally tried to choose for the birth of sons, but obviously there were some daughters in our group - at best this Dragon is moral, steadfast and intrepid. At worst he or she is opinionated, headstrong and prone to go off on his or her own if a consensus cannot be formed, but there are degrees withing this type.

In order to further define your profile I would need to know the hour of your birth.

Since I always (jokingly or not) have styled myself as having sprung full grown from the brow of Zeus you can imagine that the hour of my birth does not soften this Dragon's fire.

I love the idea of innate courage whether it is true or not. In my case I suspect it is rather like the medal that the Wizard gave to the Cowardly Lion, but whatever helps get us through life with all its ups and downs is worthy in my opinion. :)

I've got an awful lot to learn here, Charlotte, but I can relate to many of these adjectives - except - although I'm headstrong and prone to going it alone, I'm not really that opinionated, perhaps not a good combination. I have opinions, of course, but find that I can moderate or change them in the face of well-constructed arguments. Thinking back, I must have learned this in my science classes - to listen to reason and constantly test hypotheses.

I was always told I was born about 3 a.m., but don't know if that's exact enough. I barely remember it.... ;o)

Ah, the Badge of Innate Courage, whether deserved or not. Maybe this helps steer us through the storms that we all face, some more powerful than others...

I'm afraid I don't know much about Year of the Dragon either, but coincidentally I got this yesterday http://www.paulsadowski.com:80/birthday.asp so twice in as many days, I learned that I was born in that year. Coincidences continue to amaze me. I am a Virgo and am really struck by how I do fit into that mold. For example, I alphabetize my spice rack and had no clue that was unusual until a neighbor (also a Virgo) came to borrow something and called my attention to it.

I would do my profile if only I could find a picture that reflected how I feel and not how those hateful cameras see me.

Lucy, as a Taurus, alphabetizing the spice rack absolutely would never occur to me - nor Donna either who is also a Taurus. So we are fated to picking willy nilly through our randomly placed spices on what is - usually - the spice shelf. At least we got that part right!

Keith, 3:00 a.m. is on the cusp of the hour of the Sheep and the hour of the Monkey - both of which portent for a socially successful Dragon - with those under the influence of the Monkey known for being able to joke their way out of anything and those under the hour of the Sheep being very adroit in managing affairs without ruffling others.

I was born a bit later in the morning under the influence of the Rooster which makes for a fearless and imaginative Dragon - quoting here - with immeasurable pride and some of the Rooster's penchant for folly. Yikes.

My family legend is that after I was born Daddy was sent out on an errand and when he came back he knocked on the front door of his house. (I was born at home.) And Papa A always loved to tell how it turned really cold during the night and he had to build a fire in the grate to welcome me. :)

The 3 a.m. birth time is an approximation, I mean in the wee hours like that, who's looking at their watch, and even if they were who's to say the watch was accurate? I could never joke my way out of anything but am somewhat adroit at managing the affairs of others (e.g. our cat Millie), so I must surely have been under the hour of the Sheep. Don't know if that means I was born before 3 a.m., or after. If only I could have waited a few hours to make my appearance, I too could have been an imaginative fearless folly-prone Rooster-influenced Dragon. Don't know why I was in such a hurry ...

I have no idea the hour of my birth. If I can remember where I might have a copy of my birth certificate (I'm sure it's somewhere around here), I'm going to let Charlotte know. Lucy
